Extra Credit: Blog Responses

Commenting on people's blogs -- Let's see if you made the list :P

Abigail is developing her curious and engagement by connecting with the assignments and she is being open to other peoples opinion because she is curious about different perspectives. Through the website, she is able to use her creativity and the assignments help her be more responsible and persistent, while the blogs help her reflect on her work through out the week.

I complimented her blog and made a connection to what she said about how the closed reading practice forced both of us to engage in the text and teach us useful reading strategies.

Christy describes how she developed the Habits of Mind throughout the 3 week of having the class as was curious about the course material because of her love of Disney films and her openness to learn the deeper meaning behind these films. She is also engaging in the text by forming connections to her own life, using the website to foster her creativity, integrating Disney through her day to force herself to stay interested in the topic and being responsible by doing the class requirements.

I comment about what Christy wrote under creativity because we both wrote about the websites helped us utilize our creative sides.

She talks about how the annotations from the week's assignments helped her learn the writing process, which is one of the class objectives. She learned how to develop connections to her personal life to utilize her writing to make it better and get closer to the answer of the course question.

Reading her post, I learned that the annotations made for the videos and readings we do throughout the week are meant to teach us the writing process, not just for our essay, but for every small writing assignment we have, like the discussion post.

Within the 3 weeks of writing 39A, he's developed his habits of mind by being curious about his classmates opinions, engaging with classmates outside of class, being flexible with the new types of assignments he sees and reflecting on his work. He is also completing his assignments on time and although he didn't encounter persistence yet, he plans on completing the assignments on time and staying interested in the class.

I expanded on his statement of how peer review would help us develop the ability to reflect by adding that it makes sense because it would help us learn from each other.

His blog is about how although he naturally doses off reading long articles, the closed reading assignments helped him develop engaged reading practices, like helping stay curious through predicting what the text will be about and asking questions when the text is confusing.

I added to what he said about how predicting what the text would be about before reading the text helps keep us interested by saying the reason why it keeps me interested is that I like to see if my prediction is right.

He reflected on the week's work by explaining the essential techniques he learned from the close reading practice to make him a more engaged reader. Throughout the blog, he explains how predicting what the text would about, making connections to the text, and summarizing what the text was actually about were techniques he used in reading Looking into the Magic Mirror: Disney's Impact on the Fairy Tale Genre to gain a deeper understanding the text.

I agreed that predicting, making connections and summarizing are important techniques and added that combining these strategies help people become engaged with the reading from beginning to end.
